With Power comes Responsibilities

The place where we stand today can hold us accountable for our behavior; one with a direct impact which we mostly exert upon ourselves and the other which we conduct with the people around us. To be very concise, the behavior is not only restricted to how we talk to some person or even how we talk to ourselves in the deep thoughts but altogether it is a great power.

Power is a small word with much-extended meanings and a very strong influence. The authority handed over to any of us cannot be taken for granted. The different stages of power commence from within ourselves, then leads to the family and friends and finally is observed and shared in the society. As a generic description, we understand power is only into the hands our rulers, or somebody restrained upon the highest grade and henceforth we carelessly let go of our role in the progressive development. However, it is imperial to realize that the responsibility of each individual which sways upon that person regarding himself is necessary and consequential above all. No king can introduce any alteration or abuse his position unless every or a large number of singular in the kingdom decide to have that power exerted upon themselves.

Because let's just faced it, why are we here? And think about it one more time, why are we here again? Life and death just don't happen, there's a reason behind it, a task to fulfill, a mystery to unravel and a due responsibility. It begins with me and ends upon the greater good for all of us. It is for one and it is for all. Blabbering for the problems that cause chaos is just one more problem and that's the part where we need to silence our voice and let the thoughts do their magic. There's a power in us, in all of us which breathes when we infer the sensitivity of it. And no power is major or minor, only the circumference we built into our thinking makes it seem inferior or superior. And every power is 'important'.

If all of this doesn't make any sense, just focus on these last words and repeat after me, "I'm alive and this life began with me so there'll be more to it than just death."

Me for You

Who am I? A lady, a Muslim, a daughter, a friend, but that's what all of us are. So who am I besides that, I am an URBAN ENGINEER. And at the moment I'm trying my hand at all things I haven't considered of doing before. And that apparently includes keeping a slow and steady sane mind by documenting the adventurous experiences here. Somehow that stands to matter in the itsy bitsy manner but tends to be imprinted in the best way for long.

So hey to all the readers, to you I stand on a platform where I am an URBAN ENGINEER. Relatively, that's a rare term in Pakistan, but to be immensely precise the work of urban engineers has been in practice since the very beginning. Fourteen years ago NED began the department of URBAN ENGINEERING and since then a number of graduates has been serving in field.

To understand the very basic, Urban Engineering is related to the cities and their planning, in respect to the people who reside in them. City planning is an extensively vast term. From past to the present evaluation and from present to the future forecast, it includes a number of aspects for constructing an appropriate environment for the designated group of people. This field of engineering is a derived branch of civil engineering and specialises in residential and commercial development designing, planning and comparative construction. It is characteristic of all the major as well as minor inclusions of land use progression focusing the increasing needs of the  growing population. The definition of an urban engineer is comprehensive and details to the initial forethought of design to the interim handling and further exceeds to futuristic operations of public works. Henceforth, as advanced as the name suggests my engineering is an amazing, highly intriguing and innovative area of education. Enlisting the various task of it, I believe I am embarked at the preliminary stage at the moment.

This is me to myself, and this is me to you. So let's begin this journey of a writer with it's readers to inspire and be inspired.

The Engineer

A very common question that we get by with every now and then is 'Where do you see yourself in the next five/two years?' And despite answering the same with a very confident voice are we really that sure about it? I think not.

Picturing yourself in a career is the easiest of things to do. And commonly our choice is dependant on the silliest reason ever to choose or not to choose a particular line of service. And often that takes us to the path where we half-heartedly attend to the professional attire. After a few years, it's all in the habit with no sign of creativity and motivation.

Being an engineer is not waking up on a bed of books and calculating the life out of me. It's not spending long hours in the lab with five mugs of coffee or being completely nerd. It's not even the other end of extreme where you sit in a glass room and sign papers here and there. Being an engineer is being innovative and realistic. It's finding out solutions to problems that arise every day. It's improving the quality of life. It's about management. It's about dealing with the stuff that is still left to be understood. The process is particularly a trial and error method. One tries, makes a mistake, fails, improvises and tries again. Hence the cycle continues. Many times it happens that we cannot draw a similar pattern of conclusion for the two same problems that are introduced in two different areas. That's the part where the role of an engineer is required. We answer the questions of past with refinement, we entertain the queries of the present with assurance and we forecast the variation of future with accountability. Being an engineer is about taking the responsibility of producing something explicit and advancing further.

So let's not talk about the next two years. Let's talk about today. Let's focus on what lies in front of us right now. Being someone who is authoritative of causing even the most minor change is not all magical and not all fearful. It's somewhere in between the line of 'I can't do it' and 'I have done it.' It's the part where you say 'I can try it.'

The Word Enough

Every day when we wake up we strive to catch up to this word enough. There are questions we ask ourselves about progressing enough, achieving enough and being happy enough. This word with its ignored yet most significant meaning has a very strong impact on most of us. And in this continuous haphazard of a struggle, we forget to live in the moment. The moment that is here right now and won't ever repeat itself again.

So I'll be putting forward a question today. Why enough? Why do we crave so much about being at the exact same standard setup by anybody else? Why do we struggle with maintaining the benchmark? Why do we diminish the originality? Why is not being enough in someone else's eye an insult to us?

It is really, absolutely necessary to get out of the gray? I would really like to think more about this. There's this current in going with the flow, being able to be mesmerized by the unknown happenings and all the while being that unscripted 'you.' It's not something bad to be average but using that sense to restrict ourselves with the inbound creativity is what makes us inhuman. I don't have to paint because the neighbour next door is an artist, I want to do so because that's my expression. I don't have to write because then I'll be stated as an intellectual, I want to do so because that's how I share. I don't have to be someone who is just another person, I want to be the first 'Me.'

So, don't hesitate or doubt yourself, put in a little faith it's just you are being You. Push forward that stupid idea and create, you'll be an engineer. Mess with the words and enhance, you'll be a writer. Gets your hands dirty and draw, you'll be an artist. One might think that he doesn't have enough colours to make a painting, but believe me, add a little amount of water in that one colour you have and enlighten your sketch, you'll have some pretty shades of that same 'one' sole colour. I'm sure it'll be enough. You are enough.

I Can so I Will

Me, the ever ignorant, completely hassled and over-excited me has been officially declared as an engineer since the year 2016. And during the four year graduation journey as well as the after two years I basically have to remind myself of the fact that 'I'm an engineer'. Now I may sound completely useless but as a matter of factly stuff one even needs something useless to grant importance to useful thoughts. The agenda however remains to prompt myself that I still have to improvise a lot call myself capable enough of causing an invention.

The outlook of learning is very basic and the fundamentals begin with what we see. The sense of sight is a the total and most valid custom of preservation that we go through everyday. But it is not often that we observe the things we see.

Through this Epic-ly adventurous course of life, we go through rapid and slow changes, favoured and unfavoured events, and a steady built-up of personality. And with all this going around in a chaos, we learn. Today as I type these paras I am critically and frantically analyzing what I've done with myself, my education and my personality so far. What I've achieved, what I've lost, what I've balanced, where I lacked, what I've done right (if any) and whatever that has been wrong. To be very realistic, all I've concluded is that life has been so fast, so far. And to be dramatic, I still haven't structured my plans yet, I'm not getting anywhere by the next few months and I'm still looking up to my mentors for the slightest task that I'm assigned to.

So this piece, is to all those who are trying to believe, in themselves, in someone else, in just anything that interests them. Just grab on to a loop and take a step, you might stumble or even fall, you might catch mud or a pothole, you might step on to something delicate. But don't stop. Don't just see, observe where you are, think about what went wrong and try another step with a little shift of angle this time. And who knows it might just be that perfect shot where you rise. Anything is possible.

Thoughts of an Artist, Approach of an Engineer.

There's a time in our insight, when we contemplate the sole reason of life and mostly everytime we fail to understand. Why is that so? Because the human race is bound to cater complexity while the charm is always somewhere around simplicity. Simple is beautiful, and beautiful is art.

Everything begins as art. It is a mere spark in our mind and heart that intensifies with time producing the most extraordinaire results. Just like that tiny seed enchanting into an eye-catching flower. And somethings even merely end at art. Just like the same flower dies and somewhere else becomes the reason a heart smiled. It's in those intricate details that we find the purpose to survive, carefully focusing on the amount of paint on a brush for the perfect stroke and hence executing a colorful scheme to the gray sketch, is profoundly divine.

Wondering why an engineering blog is abruptly circling around art which generally seems to be the 'opposites'. But that's only what the words are doing here, tricking the mind to generate a customary sense. Now read the above para again and consciously focus on it, Isn't this what 'ENGINEERING' is too?

- Engineering is just another definition of art, which is designed with a manual. It only matters on how precise you are, towards your attention.

Enlighten, Emphasize, Envision.

So I asked him once, why he wanted to call it Envision. He reciprocated the question with another one "Is it not good?" I nodded ...
